Four guests today and first up is Bakari Kitwana. Last May, Bakari joined me to talk about his book THE HIP HOP GENERATION. Today we’ll talk about RAP SESSIONS. For the last three years, Rap Sessions, the first national tour of its kind, brought townhall style meetings to scores of cities across the country. In 2008, Rap Sessions continues its commitment to engaging the most difficult dialogues facing the hip-hop generation. By touring the nation with leading hip-hop activists, scholars and artists, Rap Sessions helps jumpstart crucial local debate. Past participating institutions include Princeton University, Brown University, University of California – Berkeley, Vanderbilt University, University of California – Los Angeles, the University of Chicago, among others.
Alto saxophonist Alex Graham has performed with several of today’s top jazz artists including Wessell Anderson, Nnenna Freelon, Louis Smith, Diane Schuur, Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Mark Levine, Peter Bernstein, Steve Davis, Joe Magnarelli, Michael Weiss, Aaron Goldberg, Rodney Whitaker, Jim Rotundi, Sam Yahel and Dena Derose. He has performed at festivals and clubs in the United States, Europe and Japan and has appeared on several recordings.
Janine Turner is the actress who played Maggie on NORTHERN EXPOSURE and she has written a book called HOLDING HER HEAD HIGH: 12 SINGLE MOTHERS WHO CHAMPIONED THEIR CHILDREN AND CHANGED HISTORY. We’ll tallk about her life and some of these amazing moms through history.
And Matt Lewis, Townhall.com commentator and blogger will join us again to update us on the race for the presidency.
I’ll also talk about the Olympics, a potential war with Iran, the Mormon compound here in Texas and a recap of this week’s Democratic Forum seen on ABC.
